Abstract
Herbal medications have gained global popularity as complementary and alternative therapies. However, their pharmacokinetic profiles often vary significantly among individuals, particularly across different age groups. This manuscript reviews the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) of herbal drugs, highlighting the influence of age‐related physiological changes on these processes. A systematic review of literature until 2019 is provided, focusing on how aging alters drug pharmacokinetics. In addition, statistical analyses comparing pharmacokinetic parameters among pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations are presented. The study’s findings reveal that variations in hepatic metabolism, renal clearance, and gastrointestinal absorption are critical determinants of therapeutic efficacy and safety in herbal drug use. These insights underline the importance of age‐specific dosing and monitoring guidelines when utilizing herbal remedies.
