Abstract— Medicinal plants form the backbone of traditional healthcare systems and modern pharmaceutical development, yet many valuable species face declining populations due to overharvesting, habitat loss, and slow natural regeneration. Plant tissue culture has emerged as a dependable biotechnological tool for the rapid, disease-free, and genetically stable multiplication of such species. This paper examines the principal techniques of plant tissue culture, including micropropagation, callus culture, somatic embryogenesis, organogenesis, and cryopreservation, with particular attention to their role in the sustainable propagation and conservation of medicinal plants. The stages of micropropagation, the influence of culture media and growth regulators, and the applications of these methods in secondary metabolite production are discussed. Challenges such as somaclonal variation, contamination, and cost of establishment are also addressed, along with strategies to overcome them. The paper concludes that plant tissue culture, when integrated with conventional breeding and conservation practices, offers a scientifically sound and economically viable pathway toward safeguarding medicinal plant biodiversity while meeting the growing industrial demand for plant-based therapeutics.
