Abstract
The rapid expansion of the digital marketplace has transformed the landscape of drug sales, opening new avenues for commerce that cross traditional regulatory and ethical boundaries. This manuscript explores the ethical challenges inherent in online drug sales and examines contemporary consumer protection policies designed to mitigate associated risks. The investigation addresses issues related to the sale of prescription and over-the-counter medications, the role of anonymity in online transactions, and the potential for abuse and harm. Additionally, the analysis considers the impact of globalization, technological innovation, and regulatory divergence across jurisdictions. Through a comprehensive literature review up to 2021, we synthesize existing research findings and highlight the multifaceted ethical dilemmas facing regulators, healthcare providers, and consumers. Our methodology combines qualitative content analysis with policy review to identify key trends and gaps in the current regulatory frameworks. The results indicate that while digital platforms offer increased access and convenience, they simultaneously challenge traditional ethical norms and pose significant risks regarding safety, quality control, and the equitable enforcement of consumer protection policies. The study concludes with recommendations for enhanced international collaboration, stricter verification processes, and the development of more adaptive legal frameworks that balance innovation with ethical responsibility.
