Abstract
Hydrogels have emerged as a versatile class of biomaterials with significant potential in wound healing and drug delivery applications. Their high water content, biocompatibility, and tunable mechanical properties allow them to mimic natural tissue matrices, thereby facilitating tissue regeneration and controlled release of therapeutic agents. This manuscript reviews the evolution of hydrogel technology, explores current advances in design and formulation, and assesses their therapeutic efficacy in wound management and targeted drug delivery. A detailed literature review up to the year 2022 is presented, alongside experimental methodologies and results from recent studies. The discussion highlights both the promise and the challenges associated with hydrogel systems, providing a balanced perspective on their scope and inherent limitations. Ultimately, the work underscores the transformative impact of hydrogels on modern biomedical engineering and outlines future directions for research and clinical translation.
