Abstract
Cancer remains one of the most challenging diseases due to its heterogeneity and the side effects associated with conventional chemotherapy. Recent advancements in nanotechnology have paved the way for targeted drug delivery systems that significantly improve therapeutic efficacy while minimizing systemic toxicity. This manuscript reviews the state-of-the-art nano-formulation strategies for targeted drug delivery in cancer treatment. We discuss the design and development of various nanocarriers, including liposomes, polymeric nanoparticles, dendrimers, and inorganic nanomaterials, that are engineered to deliver therapeutic agents specifically to tumor cells. Emphasis is placed on surface modification techniques, controlled release mechanisms, and stimuli-responsive systems that enhance targeting accuracy. Furthermore, we explore preclinical and clinical results, challenges in translation, and future prospects of nanotechnology in oncology. Our review demonstrates that nano-formulated drug delivery systems offer a promising alternative to conventional chemotherapy, potentially transforming cancer treatment paradigms.
